The Windows of Wonder Institute (WOWi), a 501c3 organization, uniquely combines ART + WEB + LEARNING to build and connect communities locally, regionally, and globally.  WOWi project teams and the WOWi community create new types of interactive digital media environments that are designed to evoke wonder, insight, and a sense of connection for improving the lives of targeted WOWi audiences.  To serve its project teams, its content contributors, and its subscriber audiences, WOWi supplies training and support, an Internet accessible library of thematic media, and the means to generate custom interactive displays.

Kim Smith, PhD
President & Co-Founder

Thinker, doer and creative problem solver in both the arts and technology, Kim holds an MA in Painting from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D. in Semiotics and Art History from Brown University.  He has been a university professor in the arts and, since 1992, a senior computer interface designer for several Fortune 500 companies.

As a professor at Texas Tech University in the 1980s, Kim originated a highly successful electronic arts project called TV on TV that produced short innovative works for television by nationally and internationally known video artists.  As an interface designer, Kim has created user interfaces for a wide variety of software products, digital television and websites.

He holds 20 US patents and, as Chief Designer for Gateway, he received an award for the most valuable Gateway patent for 1999.  Kim teaches a graduate course at the University of Texas in the School of Information that focuses upon the innovative use of the Internet and digital technology.

Don Stevens
Senior Vice President & Co-Founder

Since the early 1980s, Don has championed technology-based innovation within many public and private sector organizations. Don is a mobile computing pioneer, leading many groundbreaking field automation projects during the early years of notebook and network computing.

Don has held several IT Director positions with the State of Michigan, including Chief Information Officer for the Department of Civil Service. Don is a specialist and active project consultant in facilitating organizational change for large-scale business system implementations – primarily Enterprise Resource Planning systems in government and education.

Don earned his BA in Personnel Administration from Michigan State University, and his MA in Educational Technology from Western Michigan University.  Don currently teaches an on-line graduate course in Managing Organizational Change for Technology Innovation Projects at Western Michigan University.

Keith Hajovsky
Director of Overseas Projects

Having received a BA in International Business and Sociology from The University of Texas in 1987 and a JD from Baylor University in 1994, Keith has an extensive background in working with high tech companies, from start-ups to Fortune 500.

He understands the power of technology and how it can improve the lives of people when used appropriately and creatively.

Likewise, having worked, volunteered, studied and explored in over 40 countries around the world since 1985, Keith has an absolute passion for travel and for what it can do to transform the lives of travelers and the local people with whom they interact. Through his company, Travel Sherpa Keith, he is a travel consultant, tour leader, travel writer and travel photographer.

Duane Conder
Director of Communications


Duane Conder was lured to the then-called Digital Coast (California) from Dallas, Texas by the Dot-Com bubble of 1999.

With his BA in Mass Communications from Texas Tech University and over 25 years experience in media production working with Fortune 1000 clientele in the education, broadcast and financial sectors; Duane has built a career around New, Traditional and Social Media consulting and conversation with global contacts in various industries.

Today, through his latest company, DCONDER.LLC, he provides writing, directing and media consultation to a very short, selective list of  news, broadcast documentary and corporate clientele. He will still occasionally get hands-on with directing, principle photography, broadcast design, compositing and finishing services for film and video.
